David Codey President Rugby Australia presents the McKell Cup to the winning Captains

Rugby - The Golden Wombats kicked off the season with a stylish win against the Balmain Occasionals led by Graham Perrett and Luke Gosling. The match was moved from Victoria Barracks who closed their field but the Wombats were unaffected and we won by 5 tries to 2 . President of Rugby Australia and former Wallaby, David Codey was on hand to present the McKell Cup, named after Sir John McKell aka Big Billy McKell who played wing in 1909 & 1910 & later became New South Wales Premier & Governor General of Australia. Codey acknowledged the great work the Golden Wombats have done on and off the pitch promoting and supporting rugby communities in Australia, the Pacific and around the world.

At the post match reception back at Victoria Barracks with Co Chair Scott Buchholz (injured) and Club partner Jason Pepper from Canberra Consulting we received a presentation from NSW Positive Rugby on their work with Indigenous and Pacific communities through their programmes 'Tackle Life' Get Talkin’, Start Talkin’, Keep Talkin’ and Remote Schools Indigenous Rugby
