Vale His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh 1921-2021
We wish to extend our sincere condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family following the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Sixty-five years ago, His Royal Highness established The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the UK and 62 years ago in Australia. Since then, it has been delivered in more than 130 countries and territories, equipping and empowering millions of young people to build the skills, confidence and resilience they need to support their communities and be ready for the world. Every year, more than a million young people participate in the Award worldwide with around 30,000 commencing their Duke of Ed challenge in Australia each year, supported by around 60,000 volunteers. His legacy is far reaching but if you want to equip young people with values and purpose to live your life then look no further than this magnificent organisation set up by Prince Philip. Former Club member The Hon. Gary Nairn AO is currently the Chair.
On behalf of the Club I have been privileged to be involved as an Ambassador in Australia together with club members Glenn Crane and Nigel Stewart from Dimensional. When the club was invited to support in 2014 we were successful in raising $320,000 for the Award, at the time the largest ever contribution to the Ambassador programme. Since that time further donations have been made by Virgin Australia and Canberra Consulting continuing the partnership.

"To everyone at the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, thank you for giving me the opportunity to travel to New Zealand by funding my airfares across the Tasman. Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand were very welcoming and incredibly interested in hearing the story of my achievements and the positive influence that the Award has had on me. I'm fairly confident that I have achieved my goal to inspire young people, especially those with a disability, to push themselves and do things that they believed may have otherwise been out of their reach.
Thank you again for your assistance; it is greatly appreciated and I'm very much looking forward to completing my Silver level.
